Honda Civic Type R

Content - Today

Clearly one of the raciest naturally-aspirated 3-door hatchbacks on the planet, the aggressive styling, stiff suspension, body-hugging sports seats and raucous, hard-revving 2.0-litre engine mean the Civic Type R is not everyone’s cup of tea.

Honda’s superb 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine delivers 148kW at 7,800rpm and maximum torque of 193Nm at 5,600rpm. Honda says the combined cycle fuel economy is 9.3l/100kms and CO2 emissions are 215g/km. This car can accelerate from 0 to 62 kmph in just 6.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 146 kmph.

Some body roll but would recommend it
written by Simon Thorpe, September 14, 2009
My friend recently purchased a used 2004 Honda Civic Type R with 40,000 miles so I asked if I could drive it around to get a feel for things. The 5-speed transmission was smooth and the power from the k20 motor was responsive. The interior was spacious enough to carry four people and it had ample amount of head room. The front seats are bucket seats and it held me securely when I made some sharp turns. I wanted to see how the suspension was and it was not bad for stock. Even though there was some body roll, it could be fixed with some stiffer springs and some adjustable dampening shocks. During the 20 minute drive, it felt like a car I would like to own. The styling is nice for a 2 door and the rear hatch had a big rear window. I did not notice any blind spots and it felt like a very safe sporty car. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a reliable Honda.
