Ford Focus ST

Content - Today

Hot hatches and fast Fords are synonymous with British car culture, so an all-new Focus ST - taking on the likes of the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Honda Civic Type-R - should get a few pulses rising across the UK.

The Mondeo-style front snout doesn't mean there's a new ST, though: like the 2008 Focus on which it's based, it's just a thorough facelift.

The glorious 222bhp 2.5-litre five-cylinder carries over and the 0-62mph of 6.8 seconds and top speed of 150mph remain unchanged.

If this isn't enough, until the 2009 280bhp Focus RS arrives, there will be a 260bhp Mountune engine upgrade offered by dealers, supported by the Ford warranty.

Prices start from £18,250 for the base ST and reach £20,850 for the range-topping ST-3

Unique roar, deep and crisp
written by Martin Peddow, September 22, 2009
Ford Focus ST is Ford's 225 hp R5 turbo charged attempt at competing in the hot hatch segment. The engine is the same as in Volvo T5, but with a different exhaust system. This gives the Focus ST a unique roar, compared to the other 4 cylinder cars. The sound is deep and crisp, and you hear the exhaust more than the noticable turbo whine. The feel is very sporty on the large 18" rims, but it seems well balanced and it doesn't torque steer as you would otherwise expect from a 200+ hp FWD car. It's lowered 1" compared to the regular Focus, and combined with the larger rims, this makes for great grip in the corners, at the cost of a bumpier ride. The seats are sporty, but you'd wish you could be seated a bit lower in the car. The 2.5L engine is thirsty though and it doesn't feel happy when you're not thrashing it - at least that's my experience from a full weekend with a Focus ST.

High performance and comfort
written by breakdown, October 15, 2009
The Ford Focus ST is the most powerful version of the Ford Focus range of 2008. It has a 225 hp engine and its price is € 25,465 with three-door bodywork and € 25,690 with five-door body. The Ford Focus ST is interesting for those who want high performance and comfort in daily use. The Ford Focus ST is not the best sport that can be bought by a similar amount of money means there is more agile reactions, with more tact and more capable of transmitting the force to the ground in demanding conditions (such as occurs in a SEAT Leon 2.0 TSI 240 CV or a Volkswagen Golf GTI). The engine gives benefits to its high potency, but above all, has a strong and forceful response to almost any system. That is, although they use little changing gears, the reserve of acceleration is always remarkable. The Ford Focus ST 2.5 is not clear disadvantages in everyday use because it makes a little noise, except when it accelerates fund-and its suspension is not overly harsh. Its price higher than any other non-Focus will note the quality of finishing, either in the equipment as standard. The only noticeable improvement over other Focus is that it has some seats that attach great body and a specific leather steering wheel that is very pleasant to the touch. Another thing that distinguishes the Ford Focus ST and serving a practical function is that it has three indicators on the dashboard, the oil pressure, its temperature and pressure of overfeeding. They are very helpful to have a precise idea of engine operating conditions. The exhaust system of the Ford Focus ST is far more bulky than the other versions, and this determines that the fund's trunk is higher than in other Focus and there is no possibility of wheel replacement.

Best car by far
written by Carbon Offset, December 11, 2009
This is our 3rd Focus RS. We bought 2 2002 Focuses and both are still on the road with 200,000+ miles each. Husband is still driving his and I passed mine on to our son and bought the 2010 and I love it. I researched and drove tons of cars and this was by far the best. The Synch is great, the shifting has improved over the 2002 model and it is just a fun car to drive. Drove 600 miles in one day to pick daughter up from college and mileage was over 40 mpg. Only minor problem is lights are dim and set too low. I've been driving with the brights on at night and no one flashes me. If this car gives us the same quality of the 2002 model, we will be thrilled.

Do you want to experience the thrill of a roaring motor? Well if you do, then the Ford Focus ST is your car! Last month I purchased a Focus ST, and let me tell you it has been a wonderful investment. The engine turns on with a great roar and hums like no other. Man does this baby purr! The car is magical when it's flying down the freeway, hitting 60, 70, 80, even 90 in no time. The interior of the car is beautiful. I chose a leather package, and boy is it nice. Not only is it beautiful, it's comfortable too. Riding in comfort while hearing a nice engine, life doesn't get much better than this. If you are at all into driving wonderful cars that give you a thrill, I can definetly recommend that you purchase a Ford Focus ST.

Best first car a college kid could ask for!
written by CollegeKid, January 21, 2010
I have a Ford Focus ST and I absolutely love it. It's extremely sharp and sleek looking and I feel awesome driving it. I love the gas mileage, I get 32 miles to the gallon highway, and I also love the fact I can plug my iPod right into the system. This is the best first car a college kid could ask for!

A fantastic car to drive
written by Petrolhead, January 25, 2010
Owning a Ford Focus ST for the past 3 years made me review my opinion on driving. No longer do I regard long travels as a thing to get done and over with, but as an opportunity to feel and play with the road. Being a petrolhead myself, the torque it produces -320 Nm - offers the optimum acceleration in a straight line and the sporty suspensions makes handling precise.

Having owned a Ford Focus before the ST, the changes in the interior are even more prominent than the outside. The new bucket seats provide better support while cornering and the black/silver dashboard with the turbo indicator, visible by nearby drivers at a stoplight, makes you feel as kid showing off his toys to the others once more. I have been in love with this car at first glace. Its curves can be compared to a lovable woman and the spoiler in the back embraces the rest of it, as only it is the most natural thing in the world. The distinguishing orange - that extends to the interior as well - makes you have it polished at all times, regardless if it just rained or is going to.

All in all, it is a fantastic car to drive. Makes you feel secure while it makes you feel adventurous driving a rocky mountain passage. I don't believe I could have made a better choice between comfort and speed. It provides the perfect balance and I love it for that.
