Ford Focus ST
Written by Hot Hatch

Hot hatches and fast Fords are synonymous with British car culture, so an all-new Focus ST - taking on the likes of the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Honda Civic Type-R - should get a few pulses rising across the UK.
The Mondeo-style front snout doesn't mean there's a new ST, though: like the 2008 Focus on which it's based, it's just a thorough facelift.
The glorious 222bhp 2.5-litre five-cylinder carries over and the 0-62mph of 6.8 seconds and top speed of 150mph remain unchanged.
If this isn't enough, until the 2009 280bhp Focus RS arrives, there will be a 260bhp Mountune engine upgrade offered by dealers, supported by the Ford warranty.
Prices start from £18,250 for the base ST and reach £20,850 for the range-topping ST-3

Having owned a Ford Focus before the ST, the changes in the interior are even more prominent than the outside. The new bucket seats provide better support while cornering and the black/silver dashboard with the turbo indicator, visible by nearby drivers at a stoplight, makes you feel as kid showing off his toys to the others once more. I have been in love with this car at first glace. Its curves can be compared to a lovable woman and the spoiler in the back embraces the rest of it, as only it is the most natural thing in the world. The distinguishing orange - that extends to the interior as well - makes you have it polished at all times, regardless if it just rained or is going to.
All in all, it is a fantastic car to drive. Makes you feel secure while it makes you feel adventurous driving a rocky mountain passage. I don't believe I could have made a better choice between comfort and speed. It provides the perfect balance and I love it for that.
